In the winter of 2008, six friends, roommates, and lovers decided to start playing music together. Inspired by Canadian literary genius Mordecai Richler - and undeterred by their lack of formal training or the fact that "Barney's Version" is a shitty name for a band - they settled on "Hooded Fang".
The show's poster — a repurposing of an old science-fiction scene — promised a night of strange music, and the event description assured the concert-goer that they would be in for a night of weirdo psychedelic garage punk surf noise. Of course, since that is my favourite genre, I felt compelled to attend.
