Girlschool started in 1975 when Enid Williams (Bass, Vocals) and Kim McAuliffe (Rhythm Guitar, Vocals) formed an all girl rock covers band called Painted Lady in South London. Kelly Johnson and Denise Dufort later joined and in April 1978 they changed their name to Girlschool.
This weekend the UK has been battered by Storm Ciara. However, tonight nothing was going to stop the Tyneside locals from heading to regions favourite rock bar to witness the return of music legends Girlschool.
It must have been 1982 when this reviewer first saw Girlschool on the Australian TV show Rock Arena. I was an instant fan, but it’s taken over 35 years to actually see them in the flesh and cross them off my bucket list.
