Yard Act are a minimalist rock group based in Leeds, UK. Formed in 2019, Yard Act began life when friends Ryan Needham (Bass) and James Smith (Vocals) started creating minimalist rock tracks using a primitive drum machine and borrowed bass guitar. Later drafting in George Townend on drums, and Sammy Robinson on guitars whom they met at their spiritual home.
On a warm summer night in February, a small English band lit up a small Sydney stage in a display of class, wit and banter. This could be the start of a joke, but Yard Act are no joke; they’re the real deal.
In a year of what seems like one long, relentless tour for the Leeds post-punkers, Yard Act have returned to Newcastle for the second time in 2022 for a headline show at the city’s finest university basement.
