Big Bad Voodoo Daddy hosts a “Wild & Swingin’ Holiday Party” for North Central’s Pfeiffer Hall
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy swung by the Cabot last week for their Wild and Swingin’ Holiday Party. Billed as “the most widespread Holiday Tour they’ve ever done,” the show features gobs of swinging holiday music.
But it took a seasonal program like this to underscore an attribute that has long defined the West Coast ensemble as much as its command of swing and jump blues styles, jazz-friendly instrumentation and inventive arrangements.
Jazz winds from at least three different swing epicenters converged last night at the Lyric Theatre as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy plugged into the past for a sound that was vintage in design but wildly vigorous and immediate in execution.
