Blending American and West African influences into a sound all its own, Toubab Krewe has set "a new standard for fusions of rock 'n' roll and West African music" (Afropop Worldwide).
The first pre-party for the June 15 Lohi Music Festival saw both Cervantes and the Other Side on Friday hosting musicians slated for the inaugural gig at 32nd Avenue and Vallejo Street.
The Asheville quintet’s mostly instrumental brew of traditional West African music, fuzzed-out blues, and jam-band improvisation has put them in a league of their own since they hit the scene in 2005.
The night proved well worth the $17 admission price as two bands ' John Brown's Body and Toubab Krewe ' kicked off their 'oeHoliday Tour' which will lead them down the east coast into Florida.
