I was a little bit too pop-electronic-focused in the 90s to be fully engrossed in the shoegaze movement, but I still always had an appreciation for the bands in the scene – Pale Saints, Chapterhouse, Catherine Wheel, Slowdive.
With the line snaking away from the doors at Melbourne's iconic Festival Hall, I soaked up the faded browns and greens of the concert-goers' outfits, and pulled my jacket close to ward off the cool air.
