Celebrating the release of his “quite sad Christmas album”, Twelve Tales of Christmas – which laments lost loved ones, loneliness and the lamentable state of the world – there’s no tinsel, no light-bedecked tree and not a festive jumper in sight.
The path is particularly arduous when the singer isn’t the band’s songwriter; and this is Tom Chaplin’s scenario, at the forefront of Keane but not the three-(now four)-piece’s composer.
As front man of early noughties quartet, Keane, singer Tom Chaplin made a permanent mark in pop music penning tracks like Somewhere Only We Know, Bedshaped and Everybody’s Changing. The band lasted 5 studio albums before taking another hiatus, but it was between band breaks that Chaplin set out to carve a new solo path
Embarking on his second tour since going it alone, Tom Chaplin took up residence at London’s prestigious Palladium for the night, showcasing not only his solo album, but the gems from an almighty back catalogue of Keane tracks.
Finally reaching a wall, he made the decision to stop using drugs after a prolonged period of substance abuse, which was sparked by self-doubt and anxiety towards making his first solo record.
