One glance at the listing for Rotten Stitches, Stolen Wheelchairs, and The Casualties and you might have thought you'd be in for a seminar on America's failing health care system, but it turned out to be just the adrenaline needle to the heart needed to jolt you out of two-plus years of Covid hibernation.
With a sound that defies easy categorization and a fun loving attitude that borders upon abandon, Piñata Protest exemplify the great Texas punk bands of days gone by. The self-described “Kings of Norteño Punk” opened the show with a high-energy set of infectious songs right for any party.
Punctual punters were treated to the sextet's contagious, full-bodied blend of ska and punk, drawing upon vocal harmonies, heavy use of horns and even a Lion King cover.
