This year NZ Music Month is leaking into June. At least on Waiheke where Hollie Smith has brought The Bones Tour to the island’s theatre. Sold out and not surprising. Despite only 40 minutes away by ferry, we rarely get the bigger names in Kiwi music here.
Incorporating a trio of Sessions into her current “Bones” tour, she silenced a capacity audience in the historic (how historic? It’s older than Jamie!!) OngaOnga hall, taking us with her for a couple of hours of (nearly) all-new material. Vocal injury be damned, she gave it her all, warts and all
First off, hats off the Tuning Fork crew. One of the greatest little venues in Auckland town opened its limited capacity, Covid-combatting doors to punters for its first post-lockdown music gig last Saturday night – the inimitable Hollie Smith performing in an intimate cabaret-style seated affair.
It has been ten years since Hollie Smith released her double platinum Long Player album in May of 2007; an album that put her on the map of New Zealand music and crowned her as one of New Zealand's best soul and jazz singers.
