Cowboy Junkies: Strumming Through the Vines at City Winery
Cowboy Junkies brought their enchantingly brooding Blues sound to the Lobero Theatre on July 21st as part of the 150th anniversary of the venue. The band took the stage at 8 pm sharp, kicking off the night with a stirring cover of Neil Young’s “Don’t Let It Bring You Down.
Late in the set as they are winding down, Cowboy Junkies singer Margo Timmins comments: "I guess why you're here is because you like sad songs. We have two happy songs in our repertoire.
Cowboy Junkies finally performed in Auckland almost three years after their original scheduled date and despite a state of emergency being called during their set.
If there was an award for the most understated arrival on stage Cowboy Junkies would be strong contenders. For a show of such total immersion into a deep well of genres, whether their own material or songs by others, this return to the Royal Festival Hall would take some beating.
