ON TOUR
Norwegian Gem, Miami, FL, United States (October 28)
At the Gates is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg. A major progenitor of the Gothenburg metal music scene, the band was formed in 1990 by singer Tomas Lindberg along with former members of the Swedish pioneering death metal band Grotesque.
It is fair to say that in the pantheon of metal, Sweden is one of the holy places. A packed O2 Brixton Academy in London was fortunate to see some of its brightest missionaries, as a stacked bill of Swedish bands spear-headed by IN FLAMES, which blend the melodic and the extreme assembled to spread the good word.
Falling outside of the hectic summer season of festivals, Damnation Festival has prided itself on being an outsider next to the heavy hitters, despite the fact year on year the annual event boasts some of the best bands in extreme music.
The At the Gates Slaughter of the Soul anniversary tour stopped in Montreal this past Friday. The seminal 1995 album turned 25 years old in 2020, and while the band was supposed to embark on a special tour that year to celebrate, virus-related delays resulted in the live dates getting postponed to this year.
