With a new album in the form of ‘Mr Luck & Ms Doom‘ The Delines returned to what has become their London home, the spacious Union Chapel which provides a guarantee of good sightlines and, naturally, has great acoustics and a perfect stage for a five piece band.
This was the final date of a brief tour, built around an appearance at Black Deer Festival the previous day. With only five shows the band were very much in “lets have fun with it” mode. With no new music to promote they pulled out some less played songs.
The Delines are, of course, widely popular with the readership (and writers!) of Americana UK so it should come as little or no surprise to hear that the band’s appearance at Cambridge’s Junction 2 venue was nothing short of rapturously received from the opener of ‘Little Earl‘ through to the heart-wrenching encore
The long trudge up the hill to Alexandra Palace reaps a heck of a reward this was a first visit to the recently re-opened Alexandra Place Theatre and to say it is a remarkable space is an understatement.
Even with the air con working overtime The Fleece is always stifling, but with a gig this good no one cared. Opening act Our Man In The Field had suffered the loss of some of their kit in Brighton the previous night, leaving Henry Senior playing Dobro rather than his more familiar Pedal Steel.
