Bio
Jay Som is the musical project of Oakland-based songwriter Melina Duterte, whose album Turn Into was released on Polyvinyl Records. Duterte is the daughter of Filipino immigrants and grew up playing trumpet.

It’s always a joy to watch the artists you love get their flowers, but it’s rare that you get to watch it happen before your very eyes. At the end of Jay Som’s performance at Aladdin Theater — which was also the end of the tour for Som, AKA multi-instrumentalist Melina Duterte, supporting
LA-based California dreamer Melina Mae Duterte, better known for her solo project Jay Som, shot arrows through the hearts of her first ever Tāmaki audience during her album release show at Neck of the Woods last night.
This incarnation of Jay Som featured a new member to the live touring band that also features Oliver Pinnell on guitar, Zachary Elsasser on drums and Dylan Allard on bass.
