Bio
Girls Aloud were a critically acclaimed British-Irish girl group comprising Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle, Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh and Sarah Harding. The band was formed on the reality TV show Popstars: The Rivals, in which a girl band was pitted against a boy band in the race for the UK Christmas number one single in 2002.

We seem to have gotten used to the idea of ‘reunions’ now. The cash-ins and fake smiles, the backstage bloodbaths, the aching dead-eyed misery etched into familiar faces as they canter once more round the circuit begging to be adored, desperately trying to invoke that sliver of genius that used to be summoned

You remember Javine right? If as the defence would argue that the phone polling for ITVs Popstars: The Rivals was beyond reproach then Javine was the unluckiest girl in the country back in 2002.

Even though much of the crowd have come armed with glowsticks and some are dancing around handbags like it’s 1999 there’s something odd about a band so recent doing a reunion tour and the half-empty arena seems to back this up.

Skin-tight costumes, sky-high bouffants, spectacular stage effects and the most talked about new tattoo in the country - Girls Aloud are back. And they're back with a bang at that.

Suddenly they're wearing evening gowns holding hands talking about journeys and Sarah Harding is crying.

More than 10 years later their boyband rivals are long forgotten while Girls Aloud are part of the pop landscape.

The larger-than-life aspect of seeing Britain's most enduring girl band in the flesh is furthered when Kimberley Walsh reminds everybody of what they've already achieved this year: won a Brit award and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.
