Love for Dead & Company won’t fade away as band brings career to close
There’s something to be said about going out on top. Of course, it’s natural to wonder why stop now, what really happened, how did we get to the final show? Regardless, after last night’s finale for Dead & Company the band reached a pinnacle.
Talk about saving the best for last. My final Dead & Company concert – and favorite of them all – came June 27 at Indiana’s Rouff (pronounced “Deer Creek”) Music Center, which was rammed full of Heads saying fare thee well to the latest, and presumably last, Grateful Dead spinoff.
Dead & Company's Final Tour rolled on to Queens, NY for a two-night stand at Citi Field, home of the NY Mets. Night one in the Big Apple kicked off on June 21, 2023, at this MLB stadium, with a capacity of around 41,000 fans.
When this reviewer wrote about last year’s Citi Field show, the air of uncertainty was surrounding the band. Rolling Stone immediately ran a “scoop” that it would be the final tour, which the band immediately debunked.
Company men not only outnumber their Dead brethren on Dead & Company’s Final Tour, they also dominate the music, as the band’s June 13 gig in Cincinnati made clear.
