Baloji (born 12 September 1978 in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo) and raised in Belgium is a rapper, MC, hip hop artist, poet and film director. As a teenager in 1996 (then known as MC Balo), he started his first rap collective, Starflam.

It’s not every day you get the chance to see a Belgian rapper of Congolese origin perform in Brighton, but that’s exactly what the audience got during Baloji’s gig at The Haunt this week.
This was his first UK show as a headliner and it hadn't gone exactly as planned: a low turnout meant he had been relegated to the smaller venue under the red-brick arches of Village Underground.
Baloji has spent much of his life in Belgium but returned to Congo to record his album Kinshasa Succursale in which rousing local musicians such as Konono No 1 worked alongside him.
