Avey Tare

Avey Tare is often considered a manic, crazed experimentalist. His tenure being one of the principle frontmen of the massively popular indie rock/experimental bands Animal Collective has done him well. Yet where he really shines is on his solo work.

He brought the tour in support of the new record to New York on October 23 for a performance at Bowery Ballroom.

The project also consists of former Dirty Projectors member Angel Deradoorian and Jeremy Hyman of former band Ponytail.

Seated alone in the center of the stage, he began picking away at his guitar before a rather elaborate series of effects pedals.

Opening with an acapella rendition of The Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” (played over a slow-phased synth tone) Tare worked through a set that was surprisingly heavy on new unreleased material.

As a unit, Animal Collective are prone to trying out new material and staying true to their own vision, rather than trying to please their fans.
