John Otway brought the spirit of 1977 English punk to The Wine Cellar with two sets full of laughs, love and an unrelenting sense of determination in the face of failure.
In the run-up to his 60th birthday, the night was being filmed for Otway The Movie, a next step in a career marked by his 1977 hit Really Free and follow-up hit Bunsen Burner in 2002.
The crowd of Telfords Warehouse in Chester were tonight anticipating this supposed lack of talent and his underdog personality even before he took to the stage.
