There’s something to be said about going out on top. Of course, it’s natural to wonder why stop now, what really happened, how did we get to the final show? Regardless, after last night’s finale for Dead & Company the band reached a pinnacle.

Our hometown heroes drew crowds from all over the globe for the final three-night run of Dead and Company's Final Tour in San Francisco. The excitement was building everywhere, with one pilot on an incoming flight from Denver to SFO reciting poetry when about to land.

Talk about saving the best for last. My final Dead & Company concert – and favorite of them all – came June 27 at Indiana’s Rouff (pronounced “Deer Creek”) Music Center, which was rammed full of Heads saying fare thee well to the latest, and presumably last, Grateful Dead spinoff.

As long as the band's legacy continues to evolve in some way, shape, or form, there's no sign that it will be stopping anytime soon.
