Amazing Grace is a very new venue for a long-established icon of Americana.
The London Palladium is certainly a very nice venue, not one that the music fan might immediately think of but there are upcoming gigs from Patti Smith and Graham Nash and the last gig I caught there was Bob Dylan – so it certainly attracts names.
The legendary country and Americana singer returned to Grand Rapids on Thursday with renowned singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter opening the show.
Before Maren Morris, before Kacey Musgraves, before Kelsea Ballerini – literally, before any of today's country queens were even born – there was Mary Chapin Carpenter.
This gig was the last of Mary Chapin Carpenter's UK tour, and was also a first weekend highlight for the inaugural City Roots festival running across many venues in Cambridge as a week-long winter spin-off from the annual Cambridge Folk Festival.
