Considering the Dodgers dropped the game, I made the right choice attending Ashin and his supporting band’s performance at the best-sounding venue in town and witnessing his raw emotion spill out on the stage firsthand.
The one-man show was strong though, especially when Sung let the heavier nature of his minimalist drum'n'bass beats kick in, making the audience move and allowing his voice to sail neatly over the top.
We arrived at The Parish, which is known by locals as one of the best live music venues in Austin because of the high quality sound and production it offers artists, and it was starting to pack out for Autre Ne Veut’s opening set.
Of course no one wants to be first to arrive and rolling in a few songs after the main act starts belies a supposedly chic indifference to actually experiencing what you've dragged yourself out of your flat to witness.
The second of two sold out London shows to coincide with the critically hailed sophomore LP (released by the ever-inspiring Software label) Ashin’s bleak tales are a contradiction in terms.
